Separate the request from identifying metadata

DuckDuckGo removes identifying metadata, such as the IP address, before sending a request to the model provider. Its agreements prohibit using conversations for model training; an author can choose this route when discussing unpublished material.

The provider still processes the prompt unless the selected model has zero-provider visibility. The general privacy terms allow retention up to thirty days, with limited safety and legal exceptions; stronger protections depend on the chosen model.

Choose a model with zero-provider visibility

Selected models hosted by Tinfoil run in a trusted execution environment that, according to DuckDuckGo’s documentation, prevents the host from seeing prompts or responses. They are labeled zero-provider visibility in the model choice.

This protection belongs to those models. Uploaded images and files still go to a separate moderation service outside that encrypted channel.

Draft or summarize with a choice of providers

Duck.ai supports composing text, summarizing supplied material and conversational follow-up. Free access includes several providers; Plus and Pro add models and higher allowances. Each model has its own behavior and supported inputs.

Read a short PDF or image in the conversation

Supported models accept images and PDFs. PDF limits are fifteen pages on Free, thirty-five on Plus and fifty on Pro; spreadsheet uploads are not supported.

Control where the conversation remains

Chat history saves locally by default and can be disabled or deleted. Optional Sync & Backup stores encrypted chats on DuckDuckGo servers with decryption keys kept on your devices.

Free has a daily limit. Subscribers have daily and weekly allowances, with Pro offering twice Plus usage. Limits are visible in settings and reset at midnight UTC, with the weekly reset on Sunday.
