Get the large story decisions in view

The critique covers structure, pacing, plot logic, characters, prose, setting, and genre expectations. Findings connect scene choices with the wider story, and revision priorities rank the suggested work by impact.

Genre selection shapes the assessment. A complete draft gives the report more context for setup, escalation, and payoff; the free Starter report covers the first 10,000 words.

Carry chosen priorities into each chapter

The Plan tier adds chapter-by-chapter suggestions. You can edit which feedback to prioritize, then use the chapter plan to connect the overall critique with specific changes across the manuscript.

Review corrections with the manuscript's style in view

Copyedit addresses grammar, spelling, punctuation, and typos. A manuscript-derived style sheet records voice, rhythm, dialogue, and intentional choices to guide the suggestions.

This is a separate $20 one-time service for a full or partial manuscript of up to 250,000 words. It accepts DOCX or TXT; the free Starter Edit covers 1,000 words.

Refine the prose beyond objective corrections

Line Edit adds suggestions for clarity, flow, rhythm, dialogue, and style, together with notes for each chapter. Its $60 one-time price includes the Copyedit service.

Developmental packages and manuscript edits

Read suggestions against the actual lines

Markup adds developmental comments and revision suggestions attached to the text. It also includes one Revision Review of the next draft, showing how it addressed the original feedback and what still needs work.

Get a starting point for submission materials

The critique includes a sample query letter, a one-page synopsis, and suggested comparable titles drawn from the book assessment. These give querying authors material to revise alongside the manuscript; they do not establish an agent's interest or a title's suitability as a comp.

Choose the changes and carry them into Word

Apply or dismiss individual suggestions, write your own replacement, or apply edits in bulk. A Word download with Track Changes carries the edit into the manuscript review process.

Starter Edit lets you compare Copyedit and Line Edit on the same opening 1,000 words before purchasing either service.

Recorded requirements and limits

  • Accepts DOCX or TXT manuscripts. The free Starter critique covers the opening 10,000 words.
  • The service supplies AI-written feedback. Follow-up editorial conversation is not included in the critique.
  • An excerpt can only be assessed using the context submitted; a full draft supplies the context for whole-story feedback.
  • Copyedit and Line Edit accept DOCX or TXT files up to 250,000 words. Their separate free Starter Edit compares both styles on the first 1,000 words.
  • Inkshift's privacy policy describes third-party AI processing. Manuscripts are deleted after temporary processing unless optional storage or an active feature requires retention; deleting a project removes its stored manuscript and outputs.
