Usage & termsDistribution depends on the planStudio cancellation removes store listings
Studio subscriptions and commissioned productions have separate payment and distribution terms.
Retailer deductions and distribution partner fees affect sales receipts.
Choose the voices and keep names consistent
Review the proposed cast and swap voices from Lex's library. A project glossary holds pronunciations for character names and invented words; Lex says a correction applies throughout the book and carries into later chapters.
The Distributed service includes up to five cast voices, with more priced at $25 per five. Voice cloning is also available from a recording of your own voice.
Add a score around the narration
Productions can combine narration with music, ambience, and effects from Epidemic Sound, or use voice alone. Lex's commission licence covers music embedded in the finished production; individual tracks and effects cannot be extracted and reused elsewhere.
Review the reading before accepting delivery
Listen in the private project room and leave comments at the point that needs a fix. The service includes corrections for 30 days after delivery. Finished work arrives as a separate MP3 for each chapter and a download of the complete book.
Direct chapters yourself in Lex Studio
The browser editor accepts a chapter or full manuscript and separates casting, narration, music, and effects. Approve voices before generation, request changes in chat, and retake an individual line without redoing the chapter.
Studio's free account offers about two minutes of audio. Starter, Pro, and Publisher include 40,000, 115,000, and 250,000 words per month respectively.
Distribution and commissioned audio rights
-
Choose file delivery or managed distribution
-
Self-Distributed leaves publication to the author. With Distributed, Lex handles store delivery and says its Audible route uses a direct publisher agreement. That does not make the files eligible for an ordinary ACX upload: ACX requires human narration unless otherwise authorized.
Lex lists a distribution partner fee of 20% of net receipts on most channels, after the retailer's share; its current distribution page exempts Audible and Spotify. Confirm the channels and deductions in the signed agreement. Studio's pricing page separately states that cancellation removes books from stores.
-
Keep the commissioned audio files
-
Lex's commercial-licence summary assigns the paid commission's finished master to the author without exclusivity. The signed production agreement governs the work. It also says manuscripts and productions are not used to train AI without separate written consent.
