Closure and saved work
- Can I still use Shaxpir?
- Shaxpir has closed. The login servers were turned off and the application is unavailable.
- When did Shaxpir close?
- The final update confirms closure at 11:59 p.m. Pacific on 5 May 2026. That actual date supersedes the earlier announced 30 April shutdown. We checked both official notices on 4 October 2026.
- Why did Shaxpir close?
- The founder said Shaxpir never became financially sustainable: community and growth were insufficient, while maintaining its technical architecture limited time for building the business.
- Can I export my work or recover my account?
- Self-service access has ended. The 6 May notice offered best-effort emergency recovery via [email protected] until 5 November 2026, without a guarantee. Recovery information was checked on 4 October 2026; consult the dated notice before relying on that offer. The vendor said its database archive and support email would be deleted on 5 November 2026. This is the stated deadline, not a promise that recovery remains available afterward.
- What happened to paid subscriptions?
- The February announcement said paid subscriptions were cancelled and Pro export features made free during the wind-down. Annual subscribers were to be contacted individually about refunds; completed payments were not confirmed.
- How should I back up work in another app?
- Keep a separate copy of your manuscript and story notes in formats you can open outside the app. Export after substantial changes, include any separate character or worldbuilding files, and check that the exported files open correctly. Keep another backup on a different device or storage service. A backup you already hold is useful even if the original service becomes unavailable.
